During the upgrade process, we discovered a configuration problem with our new cards that prevented PIN-based transactions from working at a few merchants. The fix was implemented by Visa on Monday, September 19 and has resolved the problem at most merchants, but it may take a week or more to be fully activated through all processing networks.
Because of this network issue, the cutoff date for our old cards has been extended to Monday, October 24, 2022.
Hopefully you have received and activated your new debit card. If you are having trouble activating your new card, please give us a call so we can help you with this process. If you have not received your card, please contact us right away.
If you have not already done so, remember to update your payment settings this week for any recurring transactions, such as gym memberships, streaming services, utilities, and so on.
If you have trouble with a PIN-based transaction, try running it as a credit transaction. It may be as easy as tapping your card instead of inserting, or simply pressing the “Enter” key on the terminal when it prompts for your PIN. The funds will still come out of your checking account but the transaction runs through a different network for authorization. Please let us know which merchant is having the problem so we can follow up with the networks.
A second known issue is that our new cards do not currently work with Disney+. This issue is impacting more institutions than just Freedom. Visa is aware of this and working to identify the cause of this issue resolve it as quickly as possible.
The paperwork to enable our new debit cards on Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay is being processed and should be live in the next few weeks. We will provide an updated timeline as soon as it is available.
Some great new features are coming.
If you have fraudulent transactions on your card or need to dispute a transaction, we now have a dedicated dispute resolution service available 24/7. Simply call our main number at 801-375-2120 and follow the prompts to speak with an expert to file your dispute.
In mid-October we will begin offering enhanced after-hours phone support allowing you to contact us any time for basic account information, transaction research, and funds transfers.
The next enhancement that is coming is a powerful new companion app to our mobile banking platform that will give you more control over your cards. Testing is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks, with a target launch in November.
We appreciate your patience during this process. We are confident that you will be happy with the features our debit and credit cards provide. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us if we can help in any way.
